Interpretations

 Due to its heavily partisan stance and a lack of corroborating evidence, we’re left doubting La República’s charges against Landin. If the end of his tenure at Columbus was indeed mired in scandal, we would likely find some commentary in his personnel file or in local reporting. 

It seems that La República may have been running a smear campaign against a carrancista official in their region. And, it appears that Landín found himself on the losing side of the conflict between Carranza and Obregón. 

But none of the sources tell us what “special circumstances” forced Landin’s resignation in 1919.
