How does saying "I would prefer not to" support not only our individual sanity but also our collective rights as humans? (We, as white folks, have the responsibility here.)

I would prefer not to...

...ignore the oppression that others endure to make possible my comfort.

...sit idly by while others whitewash and silence our shared history.

...pretend that American Exceptionalism means that we cannot question structural inequities.

I prefer to...

...stand up for the actual promise that we all are equal.

We must destroy the insidious lie that white is superior to black. 

That's the work I'm here to do.
