Wordsmith?

I consider the weight of the words I write, but I also tend to let words guide where the next sentences (or paragraphs, or pages) go. Writing in 100-word increments has pushed me to think more deliberately not only about which words to cut but which ones to add.

In an interview with The Paris Review in the early 1980s, James Baldwin said, "When you are writing, you’re trying to find out something which you don’t know." I believe that to be true. In a revised piece of writing, you're also trying to express what you've learned in the process.
