His was a distinguished service record. In just under two years, he protected the rights of Mexicans "deported" to Columbus from Bisbee mines, refused to lower the Mexican flag at the Consulate in the town that Pancho Villa had raided, rescued a group of his countrymen from forced service in the US Military, successfully challenged the enactment of racist housing covenants, and reignited the local club patriótica. When Consular Agent Antonio Landín left town in November 1919, Columbus and Palomas once again boasted a vibrant transfronterizo community. 

But why did he leave when things seemed to be going so well?
